As dog trainers and owners, we have favorite dog-related products that make our lives easier and are well-made. Many are from smaller businesses and are also available locally. We love to support our local businesses year-round, but especially during the holiday season, and hope you will too.
Ruffwear Powderhound Jacket – Westley our Pittie Pointer mix loves his warm jackets. The Powderhound is like wearing a fleece jacket and not waterproof, but it’s great for chilly days. They’re machine washable and have held up very well with 10+ years of heavy use. Pair it with our other favorite, the Vert Waterproof jacket, when it’s extra cold out.
Ruffwear Top Rope Collar – Another Ruffwear favorite that has held up over the years! With an extra rugged Cobra buckle and multiple fun color options, it’s one of our must-haves. There are other great dog collars out there, including other Ruffwear ones like this regular buckle one, but having a sturdy and appropriately sized collar for your dog is vital. The last thing we want is for the collar to break or malfunction.
Kurgo Car Seat Tether – Keeping you and your dog safe while underway in the car can be a bit of a trick to train, especially if you don’t have space to throw a crate in the car. While headquartered in Tennessee, Kurgo keeps an office in Amesbury and has a line of quality dog products like these car tethers.

Kurgo’s lineup also includes travel bowls and dry food bags. Whether you’re headed to grandma’s house or off to camp in the woods with your dog, these products help us travel more easily with our dogs.

Wilderdog Doggie Bag – Another great option for a dry dog food bag, Wilderdog makes it easy to throw kibble in a bag (comes with a metal scoop) and hit the road. Sarah also loves the colors it comes in – an important part of good dog gear!

Another Wilderdog favorite of ours is the canvas poop bag holders. When you’re out with your dog, poop cleanup is a must. But the hard plastic ones can easily get in the way or bump your dog in the head as you’re trying to have a nice Structured Walk.

Messy Mutts Stainless Dishes with Lids – Taking a homemade meal on the road is challenging, but these Messy Mutts dishes are great as doggie Tupperware. They come in multiple sizes depending on how much your dog eats and are also great for daily meal prep at home. Make dinner when you serve breakfast or have breakfast ready to go for the next day. Dishwasher safe and high-quality materials.

Messy Mutts Interactive Slow Feeder – Getting our dogs to eat slower can be a challenge and these dishes are great for that. They come in 1.5 and 3 cups and the small one is great for cats too! Dishwasher safe and durable.

TriceraDesigns 1” Biothane Collar – Sometimes, the webbed collars from Ruffwear won’t cut it. Our Cattle Dog Pippa is always in the swamp and we needed a non-porous material. TriceraDesigns is a custom Etsy shop that makes flat collars like this as well as e-collar straps.

Quick Release Prong Collar Buckle Attachment – Another Etsy creator makes buckles connected to high-quality Biothane to add to an existing Herm Sprenger prong collar. You’ll need to know what size you have first (it’s based on the gauge of the metal) but we’re always happy to help you figure that out. If your leather buckle from Dog Coach breaks, this is a great replacement!

Boomerang ID Tags – We’re big fans of making sure your dog can be identified if they get loose. We’re also not fans of jingling tags. These metal nameplates will slide right on your ¾ inch e-collar strap so your dog always has ID on. Boomerang is our favorite but this style tag is available at Lucky Pet and Petco has a similar product too.
Grooming Mitts – We brush our dogs every few days to cut down on the fur in the house but also to keep their coats healthy. Brushing your dog is part of training and relationship building. Similar grooming gloves are sold by Massachusetts-based company SmartPak make it easier to get to hard-to-reach areas and are great for most coats.
Polka Dog – This list wouldn’t be complete without a favorite treat! Boston-based treat company Polka Dog has physical stores across the eastern part of the state and their treats are sold at our favorite local pet store, The Natural Dog. While we don’t train with treats, and you can read about why here, we do give a last-call bedtime crunchy treat like these Clam Chowda bites or their Lucky Ducky bones.

What our clients have to say...

Dog Coach listened carefully and observed keenly my interaction and tone of voice with Bella. At nearly 6 months now, she is the best-trained dog I've had. It was a worthwhile experience!

Margaret B.

We want to thank Dog Coach for your patience and encouragement! Our dogs are really coming into their own as the perfect family dogs we were looking for!

David S.

Such a great investment! We got a puppy and had a toddler... It was overwhelming at first. Working with Dog Coach has been the gift that keeps on giving.
