What a Saugus Client Says About Our Dog Training

“We just finished E-collar training with Sarah and I couldn’t be happier with the progress our dog Juno has made. she pulls like a Mack truck on the leash, to the point where walking here just wasn’t enjoyable. She is also very dog-driven – she gets beyond excited to meet other dogs on walks (too much so as other dogs don’t always appreciate her exuberance), and constantly barked out the window (incessantly) when anybody walked by with a dog.

It was apparent Juno was very receptive to training and she caught on to the concept pretty quickly. But Sarah was great about throwing “distractions” in Juno’s way and really challenging her along the way. She checked in on Juno’s progress each week and adapted the training plan to address problem areas of concern. By the end of our 5 weeks with Sarah, Juno is walking on-leash by our side (no pulling), approaching other dogs much more calmly, and responding to our indoor corrections (barking out window, jumping on guests), etc. She is the same goofy, fun-loving dog – but she has manners now, and I credit that to Sarah! It’s so important to work with a trainer who takes time to understand the dog, and I can’t understate the importance of owners needing to be committed to the training for it to be successful. It wasn’t always “fun” or “convenient”, but Juno is so much more behaved now that we are considering adding another dog to the family for a playmate (something that seemed insurmountable before with our very energetic dog). Thanks so much Dog Coach!” – Heather D.

Saugus Dog Training Tip: Taking Shorter Walks for Better Results

Dogs need walks and exercise, but if better behavior is your goal, you may want to consider starting with short, structured walks. A shorter distance conveys higher expectations to your dog. And this can be done within a remarkably short walking distance.

Instead of long walks to tire out your dog, focus on a mental workout for your dog. Slowing things down:

  • Works towards a calm state of mind
  • Builds the relationship with your dog
  • Requires your dog to focus on you
  • Builds mental stamina for you and your dog
