Review From a North Reading Client of Dog Coach Training

“We had an amazing experience with Dog Coach. Sarah is very skilled and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed our time with her. Sarah is very good at helping you understand what is going on in the dog’s behavior and helping you understand why, and how your actions affect the dog. Also there is a tremendous amount of supportive materials for training provided. Loved every minute of our time there.” – Nate D.

North Andover Dog Training Tip: Using Dog’s Food as a Reward

Dogs that wander the house freely get to make choices: to shred the shoes, to get into the trash, or to bark at the UPS driver. Without setting a schedule or managing your dog’s time, your dog won’t learn better choices (to self-settle, greet guests appropriately, and be a good household member.)

Setting a schedule means deliberately putting your dog in their dog crate (read about Full Crate Training), taking her on a leashed walk, practicing Place duration work, and giving appropriate commands and corrections. These commands and corrections make your expectations clear to your dog: don’t jump on guests, stay out of the kitchen when I cook, stop barking when I ask, and beyond.

All of this starts with your resolve to change your dog’s less-than-ideal habits.

With young puppies and dogs new to your household, setting a fairly rigid schedule of crate time, playtime, walks, and mealtime lays the groundwork for future success. Check out our free schedule template: The First 24 Hours with Your New Puppy”
